Winter Skin Problems

December 12th, 2008

With the cold weather coming on, my skin is feeling very dry and looking dull. What would you recommend I do?

The cold dry weather of the winter presents a unique set of challenges for skincare, and this time of year we often hear questions just like this in all of our clinics.  The best solution might be to fly south for the winter and take up residence in a tropical paradise, but alas that isn’t always an option.

Short of becoming a full fledged snowbird, Calidora offers several chemical peels that can really enhance your skins appearance and feel during the winter.

One example of this is our VI Peel.  This Chemical peel will improve the tone, texture and clarity of your skin by using a blend of acids and antioxidants. The VI peel produces powerful results with no pain. Softens fine lines and wrinkles and helps reduce hyperpigmentation and acne scars. Prevents and reverses the aging process by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

Another great way to keep your skin looking and feeling its best during the winter is by augmenting your regular skin care regime. Here are 4 tips to keep in mind:

1) Exfoliate Before You Moisturize

By exfoliating before you moisturize, your skin will retain the moisturizer more effectively and more deeply.  The cold weather might make your skin more sensitive, so don’t overdo it, but exfoliating on a weekly or biweekly basis is a great start.

2) Make the Most of Your Moisturizer

Apply your moisturizer with care and diligence.  Make sure that you are moisturizing after you cleanse your skin, and that the moisturizer is thoroughly applied and massaged into your skin so that it is completely adsorbed.

3) Really Make the Most of Your Moisturizer

Don’t just moisturize better, moisturize smarter.  Couple your favorite treatment with a moisturizer!  Our Calidora Vitamin B Serum is formulated to help you retain more moisture in your skin.  Its also designed to be used with one of our moisturizers so that your skin retains all the benefits of the moisturizer.

4) Use Lukewarm Water

Hot water might fell better, but it isn’t.  When showering or washing your face or hands, lukewarm water is optimal.  Water that is too hot can rob the skin of nutrients and cause dry skin to be, well dryer.
