In case you haven’t heard, May is national skin cancer awareness month. As the weather gets warmer and we all start spending more time outside, it is critical that we are all aware of the causes of skin cancer and are taking the necessary steps to protect ourselves. 90% of cancer is caused by sun exposure, so here are a few tips to make sure you protect yourself.

-Reduce Sun Exposure
Midday rays are the strongest!

-Shade your Skin
Wear a hat or a long sleeved shirts to cover up your skin if your going to be in the sun for a prolonged period.

-Beware of clouds
Much of the sun’s rays can penetrate clouds, mist and fog. You can still get a sunburn on a cloudy day.

-Remember about Reflection
Dangerous ray can bounce off the water and sand.

-Slop on the Sunscreen
Don’t be shy when it comes to sunscreen. Apply and re-apply!

-Avoid tanning salons and sunlamps
Why risk it?

-Protect Children
A little sun screen can go a long way with the little ones!

-Spot Check Your Moles
The sooner cancer is detected, the better off you are.
