#1: Refresh & Rejuvenate

Spring is all about renewal – and the same goes for your skin!  It’s time to shed that dull, dry winter complexion and put your best face forward.  Our facials and customized chemical peels are tailored to your specific skin care needs.  Calidora Signature Facials are designed to cleanse, exfoliate, treat and hydrate, revealing supple and luminous skin once again.  For a more targeted treatment, consider our chemical peels to banish the brown spots, reduce the appearance of fine lines and give your collagen a boost to improve a host of other conditions.

#2: Keep Calm & Carry On

Let us handle the big stuff, but you maintain at home.  A good skin care regimen is an absolute must!  Our team of savvy skin care experts can recommend the perfect products to build your own unique routine so that you can carry on the benefits and results from your treatments.  A most basic routine would involve a minimum of 4 steps: cleanse, tone, age defense and sun protection.  It’s important to exfoliate regularly and diligently apply any additional products such as acne or dry skin treatments.  With our top-notch anti-aging and treatment lines, we can formulate a system of skin care excellence that’s perfect for your needs.

#3: Make Nurturing Part of Your Nature

Beauty is not skin deep.  Youthful, radiant skin depends as much on your skin care routines as it does on your lifestyle and daily habits – and besides, you deserve to be nurtured!  For starters, you really do need your beauty sleep.  Be sure you’re getting the recommended 7-9 hours per night and keep your pillowcases clean to avoid the buildup of debris, bacteria and products.  A healthy diet of foods rich in vitamin E, vitamin C and antioxidants will help fight against the effects of sun damage.  Try to incorporate things such as spinach, almonds and other superfoods.  And for the proverbial icing on the cake, be sure to clean your makeup brushes regularly with baby soap or a gentle antibacterial cleanser.  Not only will this keep your skin bright, but your colors will be too!

Beauty And The Zinc!

January 30th, 2012

POP QUIZ!  Tell us… How many Botox® and Dysport® injections are performed world-wide every year?  (answer at bottom – but no cheating!)

Here’s a hint: Botox is one of the most successful medical products ever, with a more than 20-year record of safety.

As the largest provider of Botox Cosmetic in the Northwest, Calidora has been a big part of that success.  But even the most experienced practitioners occasionally have a patient who has a less than ideal response; either the effect is incomplete or the result doesn’t last as long as expected.  Though often it is simply a matter of adjusting the dose, we decided to look into it further…

One clue comes from the fact that Botox requires the presence of zinc molecules in order to work.  For this reason, it is possible that people with low zinc levels might experience diminished results from Botox.  There is    some evidence to support this theory and a supplement containing an enzyme, intended to enhance absorption of dietary zinc, has been promoted.  But our inner scientist wondered if simply taking zinc supplements  would do the same thing, so we did a study to find out.  A series of patients who had planned to have Botox agreed to be randomly assigned to either take a zinc supplement for one week prior to their injection or not  (people taking a multivitamin containing zinc were excluded).  Patients were seen at frequent intervals out to 4 months and photographs were taken.  After evaluating the photographs and determining wrinkle severity  (there is a standard way of doing this), results were tabulated and concluded.  Though the number of patients in the study was small, there was improvement in the zinc coup, with twice the effect at one week.  At 4  weeks, both groups were the same, but the effects wore off more quickly in the non-zinc group.

Whether this will be of benefit to patients who didn’t get a full response from Botox remains to be seen, but it would make sense to ensure your vitamin supplement contains zinc.  And since zinc helps to promote healthy skin anyway, there’s nothing to lose!

Quiz Answer: 3 million!
